Anti Social Behaviour Concern Update - Fireworks

Anti Social Behaviour Concern Update - Fireworks

Here’s a quick update on anti-social behaviour locally. We know it can be distressing, but we’re working closely with partners to make the area safer and support residents.

Please be considerate when using fireworks this year. I have copied below a letter from the council that explains when they can be used and the legislation around using fireworks. Thank you for your co-operation.

Dear Resident,

The London Borough of Hillingdon has received reports from local residents regarding the use of fireworks outside of the prescribed times. In such circumstances Hillingdon Council & The Metropolitan Police can take enforcement action and will respond to complaints from members of the public.

Nuisance and Disturbance Caused by Fireworks - Fireworks Regulations 2004
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 Section 80 (Statutory Nuisance)
Highways Act 1980 Section 161 (2) / Public Space Protection Order 2025 (Borough-Wide)

Permitted Use and Curfew Times

• Standard hours: Fireworks are prohibited between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

• Extended hours for celebrations:

o Bonfire Night (5 November): Permitted until midnight.
o New Year’s Eve: Permitted until 1:00 AM.
o Diwali: Permitted until 1:00 AM.
o Chinese New Year: Permitted until 1:00 AM.

• Public places: It is illegal to set off fireworks in public spaces such as streets, parks, or public highways (Footpaths, roads etc)

Please be aware it is unlawful to use fireworks between the hours of 11pm and 7am unless it is during one of the following recognised celebrations:

We must make you aware that it is also an offence for a person without lawful authority or excuse to discharge any firework within 50 feet of the centre of a highway and in consequence a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered, that person is guilty of an offence. Failing to comply with the conditions set by regulations or breaching the legislation stated above can lead to this Authority taking direct enforcement actions against perpetrators. We will also have Council Officers patrolling the areas during this period.

If you witness anyone committing any of the above offences, please report via the Love Clean Streets App / Hillingdon Council Website stating the exact location.

Across London we’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals - including with new tech like live facial recognition cameras, drones and e-bikes.

Antisocial behaviour can come in many forms and can require support from more organisations than just the police. A full list of what we categorise as antisocial behaviour is available on our website.

If you have experienced anti-social behaviour or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
